Making SAP data available to another system

Lamb Weston

Former employer

The situation

Important data lived only in SAP, while a second system needed that same data. The two systems couldn't talk to each other directly.

The solution

I set up an SQL database as an intermediate layer and connected SAP to it. The other system pulls its data from that database. Neither system had to be modified, and the data sits in one central place.

The result

Fewer errors and a consistent way of working, because everyone works with the same data.

What I took away from it

The build itself went quickly. Most of the time went into agreeing on which data, how often and who is responsible for what. That easily takes a good number of hours, but it's exactly that alignment that makes the difference between an integration that works and an integration that keeps working.
